Life Lessons We Had Forgotten Before COVID-19 - Vol 8 (part 3)

The world is moving at a phenomenal rate. And no, I am not talking about the planet itself. Every day your knowledge base and skill set are being modified or replaced by innovation. It's like the ground is shifting beneath your feet, and it is. The seismic shifts are constant and overwhelming. The moment you gain a modicum of confidence regarding the direction your life is heading— the goal post moves. Little wonder why it's so difficult to change direction, let alone change our minds. Change is formidable. It is hard. To many it is scary. Trust me, I get it. I've been a life coach/Master Trainer for decades, and I can assure you that the only mountain standing in the way of every client's results was the mountain called change. There are lessons we should have learned before COVID-19 but didn’t.

Here in the bay area, I am noticing more traffic on the roads. Indeed, there are more people everywhere. Perhaps that is good news for the nation, but not so much for nature. You might have heard that one of the silver linings of this crisis has been the return of nature. That is the resurgence of both flora and fauna in a dramatic way. There have been more bird and bee sightings, and that is a good thing, wouldn’t you agree? But what now? What will happen when the humans return. And more importantly when they return to their old habits of indifference towards nature and each other? Yes, there are lessons we should have learned before COVID-19 but didn’t.

There are lessons we should have learned before COVID-19 but didn’t. I do not politically say this. I have ZERO interest in the politics of this pandemic. My only interest is in the people, the populations the politics affect. Which is to say, my interest is in how people are reacting to the political narrative, and the subsequent choices they are forced to make as a consequence. Last week, I talked candidly about the power of choice we wield as human beings, and how that power distinguishes us from other animals. This is the forgotten miracle. That each of us has within our possession the power to choose our destiny; that we may not have the power to prevent the storms of life, but we do have the power to choose how we go through them. I want to prove to you that you are more important than you think to the world.

Life Lessons We Had Forgotten Before COVID-19 - Vol. 5

Spring has always been my favorite time of year— the only season that even affectionately comes close is Fall. I suppose I am a change romantic at heart. That is someone who is captivated by the power and possibility of transformation. Change is inevitable. But transformation? Well, both Spring and Fall represent that to me. They symbolize the need for change— that for life to continue unabated change must occur. Think about that for a minute. Change is necessary. One of the life lessons we should have learned before COVID-19 is that change is a requirement for the continuance of life. We human beings go through seasonal changes as well— That, too, is inevitable. However, we have within us the power to not only master the seasons of our lives but also to co-create the landscape.

Every day now, we hear rumors and speculation regarding the reopening of American society. There is even a government task force that has laid out a detailed plan in phases relative to reopening society, while still being ever mindful of social distancing and large group gathering. According to many experts, the arc of the virus has indeed peaked and is now in its predictable trajectory of decline. Yet, as many consider what life will be like after society reopens, one thing most haven’t given much thought to, and that is what life was like before COVID-19.

By popular demand, we have decided to Re-Air the initial broadcast of LIFE LESSONS. If you haven't heard it yet it's worth a lesson. Even if you've heard it, it's worth a listen again. Don't forget to like and share! #staysafe
"I’m one of those people who is wired, or blessed, if you will, to see a sliver of hope in the direst situations. And no, I’m not an eternal optimist. I’m a lot more pragmatic than that. I seldom look at the world through rose-colored glasses unless I can see, hear, taste, touch, and smell the roses for myself. So, when all the panic began regarding Covid-19, I took a measured step back and observed—not what the news media narrative was pronouncing— but how real people, everyday people, were reacting to the closures and eventual cancellations; indeed, the near shutdown of everything we considered normal. Was there a life lesson I needed to learn? Was there a life lesson I had discovered before Covid-19?"

There are life lessons we should have learned before COVID-19 but didn’t. Perhaps we didn’t want to learn them out of sheer ignorance or arrogance. Or maybe, we failed to learn these lessons because to do so meant we would have to change something about ourselves, in particular our beliefs. Undoubtedly, the most difficult mechanism to change is one’s belief system. Why? Because our beliefs shape our worldview and our worldview defines who we are— At least that’s what most seem to believe. However, if we allow ourselves to be solely defined by what we believe, then what happens when the world challenges those beliefs? Or, deeper still, when we confront or change them? What happens to our self-concept then? Indeed, what happens to our view of the world?

One of the often-overlooked facets of any crisis is what it reveals. What we are learning about the average American is that many more of our neighbors are living with preexisting conditions than what was previously thought— indeed, ignored by them as well as the medical establishment. For decades, we have winked at the rising incidence of pre-diabetes along with other immune compromising disorders because they were otherwise invisible, silent killers, which receive little or no media attention, though they kill tens of thousands of our neighbors, co-workers, friends, and family members every year. We didn’t even seem to mind the increasingly ominous corporate footprint of yet another dialysis center springing up in our small towns, rural areas, and metropolitan cities. We took it all in stride until Covid-19 reminded us otherwise.

RTN Ep. 11 - SPECIAL NEWS REPORT COVID-19: What Is A Virus?
Tuesday Mar 17, 2020
Tuesday Mar 17, 2020
SPECIAL NEWS REPORT: If you listen to the media long enough, you will begin to allow the negativity to permeate your thought life. Indeed, your soul. And if the negativity doesn’t petition your mind, the fallout of fear will paralyze your heart. One sensational story after another until most retreat into their small corner of the world overwhelmed by the imagery; too angry and emotionally spent to do anything but lodge one complaint after another to anyone who will listen on social media. Yet no one hears anyone else because each voice finds itself lost in a cacophony of helplessness. So today, the Covid-19 virus (better known as the novel corona virus-19) dominates the news cycle. We are continuously being told that the Covid-19 virus is a worldwide pandemic. And most likely it is. But so too is heart disease, cancer, diabetes, homicide.
