Ep. 72 - Why You And Everyone Else Is Wrong About Fat (Part 1)
Tuesday Jan 15, 2019
Tuesday Jan 15, 2019
Did you know the average person spends 17 years of their lives dieting? Think about that. Seventeen precious years of life and for what? A girlish figure? An athletic physique? Or is it simpler than that? Maybe people are spending so much of their adult lives in the pursuit of something they once had, never had, or perhaps something they’ve always wanted. In a country that has created an entire sub-culture around thinness and youthfulness, there is little wonder. Still, the latest research suggests that only 2% of all dieters ever attain any real success in losing their body fat let alone achieve sustainable and permanent change. I get it. Losing weight, even a few pounds, can seem like an uphill battle. Most of my clients find me when they’ve reached their tipping point. In their minds, they’ve tried everything, but nothing seems to work. All they want is to move the needle on the scale just a little because let’s face it, like most people they’ve been brainwashed to believe that losing fat is tantamount to achieving health and happiness. It isn’t. Still, you can change that. But first, you’ll have to learn why you and everyone else is wrong about fat.

Episode 71 - WHY EXERCISE DOESN'T WORK
Tuesday Jan 08, 2019
Tuesday Jan 08, 2019
Every new year begins with the same old message. Do this…, and the results will magically follow. And what they offer are the most understated workouts one could imagine. I remember a few years ago the big craze was the five-minute workout. Five-minutes? Really? Look, the only way a five-minute workout can have any real impact on your health is if you’ve been bed-ridden for an extended period of time, you’re a complete couch potato or have essentially lost all motor functionality. It isn’t to say five minutes of movement means nothing to the body because that would be a misstatement of basic human physiology. But working out five minutes a day is not going to allow your star to align with all the other known stars in the workout universe. It just isn’t. And shame on you if you’d even want such a shortcut.

When we come to a critical fork in the road – whether or not to steal, cheat, retaliate, take a risk, quit a job, begin to take control of our health, study for an exam, or remain in an abusive relationship – minor variations can make all the difference, nudging us one way or another. At decisive moments, an attentive friend, an inspiring book, a caring teacher, a strong role model, a smiling stranger, even good weather, or a long night’s sleep, may be enough to either prevent us from reaching our potential or be the one thing we needed to assist us in walking boldly into our destiny.

Episode 24 (REPLAY) How To Recalibrate Your Dreams in 2018
Tuesday Dec 18, 2018
Tuesday Dec 18, 2018
While we're taking a short hiatus from the weekly grind, we'd like to share with you some of our most requested shows of 2018. The show, "How To Recalibrate Your Dreams in 2018," is likely even more relevant today as you step boldly into the hope of 2019. So, it is our hope that you are inspired all over again.
It’s human nature to doubt oneself, to avoid responsibility, to procrastinate. When we fail at something or do something wrong, it is common for us to hide in the corner or to bury our heads in the sand. So, we have become clever at even dreaming. We dream out loud and just big enough to receive the applause and admiration of our peers while knowing in our heart of hearts the dream is too big for us to put forth the effort to make it come true. So, we hide the truth. Not just from the rest of the world, we hide it from ourselves.

Consider this: We are living in a time where nearly 71 millionaires are created every hour in America while 1-out-of-every-7 children will be born into poverty. A time where the same medical procedure can cost significantly different from one side of town to the other. We may accept this kind of blatant price gouging from gasoline merchants but why would we accept it from our medical professionals? How is that possible?

Episode 70 - THE HEALTH STATE OF THE UNION
Tuesday Dec 04, 2018

Over this past year, we’ve brought you many hard-hitting facts regarding the drug crisis in America. We informed you that more Americans are addicted to painkillers, sleeping pills, and speed, than in any other developed nation in the world. We attempted to bring perspective, if not, humbly provide some answers to what seems unthinkable. How could this happen in the richest country in the history of the world? And equally important, why? Why do our grade school kids have to fear for their lives from one of their peers gunning them down in the playground? Or have to refuse candy from friends because what looks like harmless candy may, in fact, be a drug, such as the street drug named,” Strawberry Quick,” which is due to its strawberry flavor and its appearance like “Pop Rocks.” Where it was most likely handed to them by an older brother, their sister’s boyfriend, or an opportunistic dealer who is trying to cash in on their innocence.

Episode 69 - THE POLITICS OF PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS pt. 3 "Taxing Health"
Tuesday Nov 27, 2018
Tuesday Nov 27, 2018
No sane person would take generic measures to fortify the foundation of their home if they knew it had been projected to collapse. Yet, this is precisely what our government officials are choosing to do. They choose to implement policies and laws that are clearly designed to cater to the pharmaceutical drug companies and to protect the insurers from what the industry considers unreasonable disbursements. Meanwhile here’s what the average American is dealing with: In the next 24 hours, 4,660 new cases of diabetes will be diagnosed. That’s more than 3 friends, neighbors, co-workers, or family members every minute of every day. Every 19 seconds, in fact. And it gets worse, someone in the United States will develop Alzheimer’s disease every 33 seconds. This year alone, Alzheimer’s disease will cost the United States $277 billion and this number is projected to rise to more than $1.1 trillion (that’s trillion with a T) by 2050 when 1-in-3 Americans are projected to be afflicted by this deadly disease. Ironically, this 1-in-3 number is the same ratio used to project the incidence of diabetes by 2050. A mere coincidence?

The idea that health care insurance includes the word "health care" is laughable to me. I for one refuse to play the neologistic game where the powers that be can simply assign new meaning to preexisting words like “preexisting conditions” at their discretion. Let’s call it what it is. Health Care insurance has nothing to do with health. It is insurance against illness and disease. If it were truly about health, I suspect they would have called it something akin to health care assurance, not health care insurance. But you and I know it’s all about money and corporate greed. In the richest country in the history of the world, we’re left with little or no alternative choices. Even the drugs, so many millions of Americans depend on, are not subject to the same economic forces of supply and demand or rules of competition as all other instruments of capitalism. Why is that? Why is the pharmaceutical drug industry exempt from the same forces that govern all other industries?

Episode 67 - THE POLITICS OF PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS
Tuesday Nov 13, 2018
Tuesday Nov 13, 2018
Democrats seized control of the House of Representatives last Tuesday, prompting cheers among their constituency — including, oddly enough, for pre-existing medical conditions. During a speech at Democratic Party headquarters in Washington, D.C., Nancy Pelosi, the House minority leader, said the flip will restore checks and balances. And for the more than130 million people living with pre-existing medical conditions, those on Medicare, Medicaid, “the Affordable Care Act,” “Tomorrow will be a new day in America.”
I believe the goal of health care should be to create an environment where health is the ideal preexisting condition assuring that the individual is less likely to contract a debilitating illness or chronic disease. It makes sense then that the only pre-existing condition the medical industry as well as the political pundits should be interested in for the American people should solely focus on health rather than treating disease. What do you think?

Episode 66: LIFTING THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD (In and Outside the Gym)
Tuesday Nov 06, 2018
Tuesday Nov 06, 2018
Today is Election Tuesday in America. And you would be hard pressed to walk by any screen without seeing another political ad or to hear talking heads passionately debate the current political climate. The graffiti of the mid-term political season spills over into our lives, onto our lawns, and even shows up as unsolicited reminders in mailboxes all across America. We’re told amid all the finger-pointing, public shaming, and blaming, we’re also being told what the most important issues should be to us. We don’t get to vote on that. We’re simply handed a multiple-choice ballot and then and only then is our collective voice counted. All other days, months, weeks, years, we are to remain the silent majority— That is, until the forces of power grant us permission to speak out, or in the case of the current political climate, to act out. But this is done to our peril. At least, in my opinion, to the peril of our health.
