Ep. 81 - Why You And Everyone Else Is Wrong About Fat (Part 10)
Tuesday Mar 26, 2019
Tuesday Mar 26, 2019
Gaining weight is not a zero-sum game meaning you don't gain weight overnight nor do you lose it that way. It takes days and weeks and months and years to introduce and initiate that kind of extreme imbalance to your body. What starts out as a negotiation slowly transitions into initiation and intention as far as the body is concerned. Just a side note, the body will slowly adapt to any changes you initiate because it's always trying to maintain a state of homeostasis. But after so many months and years of adaptation it will not only adapt, it will adopt your overtures as its new survival paradigm even when it contradicts what it knows you need.

Eleven men spread out over several companies control food empires along with seven hundred thousand employees and $280 billion in annual sales. We wouldn’t recognize any of them by name, but the companies they represent are cherished household names— Familiar brand names like Nestle, Kraft, Nabisco, General Mills, Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola, and Mars. These are the prominent players in the processed industrial foods industry, fierce competitors, who came together on a windy day in Minneapolis in 1999 to discuss the rising obesity epidemic in America. The same companies that turned unsweetened yogurt into Yoplait— an otherwise unsweetened healthy option into a dessert for breakfast. The very people who gave our children Lucky Charms, Cocoa Puffs and Captain Crunch as breakfast alternatives to more traditional breakfast choices like oatmeal or bacon and eggs. How ironic?

In this episode, we explore the deep connections between the mind and body that can either liberate you in your quest to lose weight or become an impediment to progress thus keep you stuck. The field of neuroscience is using the power of belief to help amputees in excruciating pain find relief. Often people who lose a limb experience what’s called phantom pain—very real pain sensations in a part of their body that no longer exists. Let me stretch your thinking a bit by surmising that many people are stuck in a weight loss rut if you will because they are still experiencing the “phantom pain” associated with a time when they were much thinner and weighed much less. Instead of the loss of a limb, it’s as if they’re experiencing the pain of losing a part of themselves. In essence, they are losing a whole person as in their former selves.

Tuesday Mar 05, 2019
In this episode, you will learn why most of what you know about fat is patently wrong. You will also learn the reasons why the health and fitness industry has most Americans obsessed with the idea of losing weight while keeping them ignorant about where their respective weight loss is coming from. For instance, women, in particular, are still held prisoners by their scales as well as an unrealistic expectation for low-caloric consumption. Most desire to blast the fat off their bodies, yet only end up with water weight loss, or worse, the loss of bone density. That’s because they are unaware that their bodies need fat for energy and health sustainability. Fat may sit underneath our skin, but it is also healing our wounds, offering to pad our injuries and falls, and is on the frontline of protecting our bodies from harm.

In this episode, we bring you our inaugural Real Talk Fitness News report. We take a closer look at the development of several new scientific technologies that inspire to change how we relate to diseases from birth, how we age, as well as how we sleep and don’t sleep and how that impacts our health. We also take a look at the highly controversial Hospital Price Transparency Laws that went into effect on January 1, 2019. There is a reason why ninety-two percent of providers said they are somewhat or very concerned about the public perception of their prices and it has little or nothing to do with the welfare of the public they purport to serve.
In the NEWS:
- The Hospital Price Transparency Laws.
- The first genetically-modified babies.

The last few weeks, we've been discussing the ins and outs regarding fat. We’ve also made distinctions between white, brown, and beige fat. We've talked about how fat is active, not passive— How it can even be reactive. We discussed the notable differences between subcutaneous and visceral fat; that subcutaneous fat is the fat found immediately beneath the surface of the skin (the pinchable fat) whereas visceral fat is mostly responsible for your protruding belly and expanding waistline; that if you have a 35 inch waistline or larger (for a woman) or a 40 inch waistline or larger (for a man) then you have a substantial amount of visceral fat. We also discussed how dangerous visceral is because it wraps itself around vital organs like the liver, kidneys, and heart, crowding them and making them a lot less efficient. Visceral fat also produces hormones that control insulin levels which keeps your body storing fat. Studies have shown that having excess visceral fat is linked to a higher risk of type-2 diabetes, insulin resistance, heart disease, and even certain cancers. Visceral fat also produces inflammatory markers. Over time, these hormones can promote long-lasting inflammation and increase the risk of chronic disease. In today’s episode, we discuss the only known reliable method to rid your body of visceral fat.

Thigh master, Nintendo Wii workouts, Tae Bo, Insanity, Beach Body, P90X— What do these names have in common? All were once considered the top fitness trend of their respective years. Every year there is a new fitness trend. And every year Americans spend billions hoping they have found a shortcut to weight loss. Any rapid weight loss is a red flag to the body. To the body, it is a declaration of war. It is one of many reasons why you and everyone else is wrong about fat.

In this episode, we delve a bit deeper into the reasons why your body won’t lose its fat. One of the reasons is because you keep focusing on the wrong type of fat. The diet and fitness industry spend billions of dollars each year to keep you coming back for more diets, more exercise routines, more pills, even more, surgeries. They know that if they can get you to focus on your subcutaneous fat only that they would have created a lifelong consumer. The body fat that’s the most dangerous is not likely the body fat you’re presently burning, especially if you follow any of the diet and fitness industry’s advice. Find out why you and everyone else is wrong about fat.

Tuesday Jan 29, 2019
In this Episode, I expose some of the secrets the body uses to maintain its fat levels. One powerful way it accomplishes this is to produce a hormone called Leptin. But before we get ahead of ourselves realize everything you thought you knew about fat and leptin is probably wrong. Sometimes, we’re wrong because we don’t know any better. Then there are those times when we rather not know what we don’t know. Whatever camp you find yourself in this morning will ultimately determine whether you remain stuck or you allow yourself the freedom to get unstuck in 2019. Before you can understand why you’re not losing weight, you must first gain a deeper appreciation of basic human physiology. The role of your fat genes is primarily energy storage in the body. Remember, fat isn’t some foreign invader to the body. It is an endocrine organ that is responsible for many metabolic processes.

The other day I asked a client to name me one woman who isn't on a diet, just got off a diet or is on her way to a diet? She had to agree with me. The sad truth is women have been programmed by the health and fitness industry to obsess over their weight. But everything in the body weighs something, so the idea of losing weight is not only purposefully misleading it’s just wrong. The plain truth is the fitness industry knows that your fat cells are fixed, meaning you never really lose fat. Your fat cells simply shrink and are redistributed throughout your body. Granted, most people would rather have less fat around their abdomen, hips, and buttocks, but we don’t get to determine where our fat is distributed in the body. Well, at least, without surgery. Your genetics not diet, or exercise, determines that.
